County of Hardeman State of Tennessee
This agreement entered into Feb 19th 1866 between J M Shivers of the one part and Oliver Shivers (colored) of the other part, both of the county and state above-mentioned Witnesseth, The said J.M. Shivers doth hereby covenant bargain and agree to furnish houseroom, firewood and provision and pay the said Oliver one hundred and twenty-five dollars, provided the said Oliver fully perform the duties herein after mentioned and promised by him. The said Oliver on his part doth hereby covenant bargain and agree to live with the said J H Shivers during the year 1866 for and in consideration of the above mentioned compensation from the said J.M Shivers. I the said Oliver further bind myself to perform good and faithful service for the said J M Shivers during the time above-specified and to conduct myself prudent and orderly & be kind in my behavior, & obey all reasonable orders given me during the year 1866. I further bind myself to pay for all lost time and neglect of duty, to clothe myself and pay my medical bills. I further bind myself to be governed by the rules and regulations given by the agent of the freedmens bureau of the county of Hardeman and state of Tennessee
