Know all men by these Presants
I, H B Brown of the county of Hardeman & State of Tennessee have bargained with the following free persons of color for the year 1866 viz, Alexander Brown & wife Hannah Brown and her children Margaret Benjamin Roena & Anderson  H B Brown is to furnish land & team & feed for team & cabins for them & fire wood if their provisions is not sufficient for they year  we are to pay H B Brown to furnish this 
We the above named free persons of color, are to furnish our own provisions clothing & medical expenses & repair fences and work under the directions of H B Brown for one half of the cotton made by us & one tenth of the Wheat and HB Brown is to furnish corn for our Bread.
We are to cut and haul wood for ourselves & H B Browns family  feed & attend to all stock and not to use any of the stock unless by H B Browns directions for a failure or disobedience or neglect of our duties we are to be fined, punished or discharged according to the Freedmans Regulations 
Witness our hand & seal this the 23th day of July 1866.
