Dear Mr. English:
Thank you for your letter of July 1987 in regards to the Smithsonian Institution application grant to IBM to produce and distribute a reprint of the Smithsonian Magazine's June 1987 issue. I am very complimented and honored to have been featured in this particular issue. I am very complimented and honored to have been featured in this particular issue. I am also honored that you wish to publish my letter to Mr. Wernick and of my response to his article on me and my work that appeared in the June 1987 issue. I do give my permission to the Smithsonian Magazine to release my letter.

Please find enclosed the copy of my letter to Mr. Wernick that is being returned to you. There is one correction in spelling in the second paragraph. The letter "r" is left out of the word "interview". You can leave it as written or you can insert the letter "r" as I have if the letter is to be published in hand written script form.

Again, I thank you for your letter, wish the Smithsonian Magazine continued success in general and success with its grant application in particular and for its interest in my work.

Sincerely,

Jacob Lawrence
