Dear Mrs. Avery:
I have been notified by Matt Phillips of your very generous loan to our traveling exhibition of monotypes. I have seen photographs of the selected works by your husband and want to thank you for making these particular ones available. At this time, a formal request (from the Smithsonian) is, of course, proper.

We would like to borrow the following works by Milton Avery for a two year tour beginning in the late spring of 1972:

"Blue-Faced Woman"
monotype
$5000.

"Fish"
monotoype
$3500.

"Reflections"
monotype with watercolor and crayon
$5000.

"Birch Grove"
monotoype
$5000.

"Blue Tree"
monotype
$6000.

"Pink Nude"
monotype
$5000.

"Girl with Ivy"
monotype
$5000.

"Bather with Blue Towel"
monotoype
$5500.

"Myself in Blue Beret"
monotype
$7500.

"St. Johns River"
monotype
$6000.

"Nude Reclining"
flo-brush drawing
$1000.

We understand the values of the works are as noted and will insure them for that amount for the full length of the loan.

In order to achieve the greatest possible protection for all the works, we plan to mount each in a rag mat and to frame each, under special light-diffusing plexi-glas, in sturdy, walnut traveling frames. The entire exhibition will be packed in slotted crates designed for maximum protection.

I understand Matt Phillips will be bringing the Avery works with him when he comes to Washington on March 27. I am most anxious to see them "in real life" and look forward to their arrival.
