February 12, 1973 Mr. Frank Getting Smithsonian Institution Joseph Hirsh Horn Museum & Sculpture Garden 135 East 65th Street New York, New York 10021 Dear Mr. Getting: Charles White, whom I represent, has asked me to answer your letter of February 5, 1973 regarding the Biographical information which he gave you over the telephone. You raise a question about the date that he was an artist in residence of Howard University and the fact that he was hospitalized between 1944 and 1947. The dates are correct. He was hospitalized during that period of time. He continued as an artist in residence at Howard University in 1945 as at that point he was not back in the hospital. I note that on your sheet, which I will return to you, that the Biographical information given to you does not include a tremendous number of shows and other data about Charles White. I am therefore sending you, under separate cover along with your Biographical sheet, a complete Biographical data sheet on Charles White. I think that it would be more accurate to bring it up to date than what was given to you over the phone by Charles White, who probably could not recall various activities of his. Thank you for your interest in Charles White and we would be happy to assist you in any other way that you might find useful regarding Bio material on Charles White. Sincerely, Benjamin Horowitz - Director BH/rg
