Dear Mr. Volk:

In order that the Advisory Committee on the National Gallery of Art may know what has been accomplished by the Gallery, what it is doing, and its plans for the future, and that they may view a valuable painting by and old master now deposited in the Gallery and which later may be tendered to it as a gift, I am calling a meeting of the Committee, for the forenoon of Wednesday, January 28, in my office in the Smithsonian building.

If, for any reason, you cannot be present at that time, will you not be so good as to get in touch at once with Messrs. Herbert Adams and Edwin H. Blashfield, the other New York members of the committee, and wire me what day next week will best suit all three, or the majority of you. I am compelled to leave the city the first of February, and should like to have the meeting before I go.

The Institution, while not in a position to offer to compensate you for your services, will be glad to defray the expenses of your trip to Washington.

Trusting that I may have the pleasure of seeing you next week, I am,

Very truly yours,
Charles S Walcott
Secretary.

Mr. Douglas Volk,
119 East 19th Street,
New York City.
