Dear Mr. Fleischman:
It was very kind of you to telephone Eleanor Powell regarding the proposed traveling exhibition of AMERICAN PRINTS from your collection. We are very grateful to know that you are, in principle, in favor of letting the Smithsonian arrange a limited tour of outstanding museums. We understand, of course, that it would not be possible to circulate Old Masters from your collection and we look forward to hearing from you which of the contemporary artists may be included. We have copies of the excellent catalogue published by the Milwaukee Art Center and could check all details with this publication.

Since our printed catalogue of traveling exhibitions for 1960-61 will soon go to press, we would appreciate hearing from you again soon.

The Smithsonian Institution will be responsible for all costs involved in the tour of this portion of your collection, notably wall-to-wall, all-risk insurance, transportation charges and all overhead. If at all possible, we would like to publish a booklet pertaining to the traveling selection. We hope that it will be possible to use some of the existing boxes in which the collection traveled to Milwaukee. As you know, the cost of crating is always very substantial and we are working on a "shoestring." Perhaps we should point out to you that the Traveling Exhibition Service operates entirely with private funds. There are no Government funds involved in our operation, and we do not figure in the Smithsonian budget.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

With kind regards,

Very sincerely yours,

Annemarie H. Pope gea
