My dear Sir: 

I take pleasure in announcing that I have laid before Major General S Wayne Asst. Commissioner your communications hearing date, respectively Oct 22nd Oct 23rd  Nov 1st and one from Mr Wm Mitchell dated Nov 4th/66  

I am instructed to say that whatever pledges have been given to your Association by Col Callis will be redeemed by the Assistant Commissioner.  The amount of funds promised to repair the house before the burning will be paid even though the house has been destroyed.

In reply to so much of your communication as relates to the Bureau aiding in rebuilding the house so unfortunately destroyed, I am authorized by the Assistant Commissioner to state that the Bureau will pay in advance to any party rebuilding the house, rent for eighteen months; the said rent to be a liberal per cent on the cost of the house.

Or the Assistant Commissioner will pay to your Association three hundred + fifty dollars ($350.00) upon the completion of the house; provided it be used for school purpose for freedmen. The last mentioned sum however does not include the amount pledged by Col Callis.

In regard to rations for destitute freedmen in Northern Alabama, I beg leave to state that seven thousand sacks corn
