Rev. E. M. Cravath.

Dear Sir.

A Bill has just passed the hands of the Alabama Legislature appropriating $325000 for school purposes during the year commencing Oct. 1. 1868.

W. N. M. Lofton, Sup. of Public Schools for this County & City desires me to write to you to send to the City of Montgomery five teachers. The compensation will be $52 per month. The State, however, may not be able to pay at once the sum provided as the State taxes are collected between December & April. Please send on the teachers immediately as it is important that the schools should open at once. We will secure rooms for the schools until the new building is complete which will be about the first of December.

If you can appoint the ladies whose names I gave you from [[?]], & Miss Hogan of Cadiz, I presume it will be agreeable to them.

Let me hear from you at your Earliest convenience

Yours Truly
R. D. Harper
Supt of Education.
