Dear Sir
Your favor of the 2nd inst has been received.  I saw Dr. Cloud Superintendent of Education for the State of Alabama and had you appointed Superintendent for Madison Co.  The Dr. will send your appointment and other papers by Mr. Sibley, Senator from that county, who returns to Huntsville this week.  I hope you will accept and go to work immediately.  The compensation will be determined by the County Commissioner or Trustees.  Your first business will be make an enumeration of the children and then arrange for the opening of Schools.  All necessary information, however as to your duties will be furnished I presume by Dr. A.B. Cloud of Montgomery.
If you should not accept this appoint we desire you to open your School at once.  The compensation provided teachers by the Count Sup' of this county is 50.$ per month from the State.  Let me hear from you at once.
