Mr. J. B. Healy, Agent &c

Dear Sir,
In reply to your communication of Oct 10th 1868, addressed to Col. Edward Beecher, expressing a fear that the sum of $250. already appropriated by the Bureau to aid in the erection of a School House at [[Gainvle?]] will scarcely be sufficient to finish the building, with all the assistance which the colored people can render; and asking what more can be done. I am instructed by the commissioners to reply that without specifying any amount the Bureau will give such an additional amount as in your judgment & in the execution of the strictest economy may be absolutely necessary to the completion of the school house.
You will, therefore proceed with the building & report as soon as possible.

Yours truly
R. D. Harper
Supt. of Education.

Transcription Notes:
tr Gainvle - Gainesville - Could this be the place name starting with Gain? Just an abbreviation. * I looked at a list of towns and cities of Alabama, and that city is the only one that fits the letters seen, so it is an abbreviation of Gainesville. I agree with you. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-03-06 19:41:03
