Dear Sir.

In addition to "Common School Laws of the Alabama" & School Laws of City & County of Mobile" which I sent you last week I send you today the Constitutional law of Ala. on the subject of Education. Also extracts from the old Code of Alabama which has  been adopted by the Legislature recently.

I. Provision for Common Schools in the old code.

1. "The annual interest at 8. per ct on that part of the surplus revenue of the United States deposited with the State under act of Congress of 23d June 1836."

2. "The annual interest at 8. per ct. on proceeds of the sale of certain lands granted by the United States for the use of schools, in the valueless 16" sections in the state, under act of Congress of 11" August 1848."

3. "The annual interest at 8 per ct on the fund which has accrued, or may  hereafter accrue, from the sales of the 16" sections of the several townships of this State."

The present and future indebtedness of the State to the Common Fund from the three sources above named [[illegible]]
