Dear Sir,
Your letter of the 19th ult. is re'd and contents noted. You ask what can we do to assist you. He answers that we will pay maximum rent for buildings used for colored in your Co. provided competent teachers are employed. In most townships, the Colored man can collect & put up a log house that will answer very well in their poverty, and $12.00 will purchase the necessary nails and hinges &c.
Under the direction of experienced white men friendly inclined, you can have a passable house in any township with but little assistance and the Colored man will be more interested because of the continued
