I also gave Rev. Mr. Butler, the pastor of the church, encouragement I hope, whenever the Trustees shall present sufficient evidence of their ability to meet the payments as they shall fall due, with a lease of the building for school purposes, drawn in favor of the Bureau, that the hesitant commissioner would pray a liberal rent for eighteen months in advance, thus aiding in securing permanently a building for school and public worship. In this instance the proposition seemed both feasible and legitimate, and I was  induced to maintain it from instructions received on former occasions in similar cases.

From observation and inquiry I was let to believe that there were children enough in town for another school that I might act intelligently in the matter, I arranged for an informal census and the result is such as to require the opening of another school immediately.
