teachers. I entered into contract with Mr. Alfred Hudson, of Columbus, Ga., for twenty benches at two and a half dollars a piece. These are to be delivered in Girard on 15th inst. Three young men are expected to report at this office daily from Cincinnati, one of whom I design to send to open the school at Girard.

At this place I found a number of intelligent colored people, anxiously waiting for the establishment of a school for their children. They gave me a hearty welcome. I found the citizens are fully acquainted with the desire of the colored people, and disposed to favor them in its realization. Much of my success in this place is due to the valuable- assistance of Mr. Keils, U.S. assessor of Internal Revenue. Through his kind attention I was introduced to Ex - Gov. Shorter, Judge Wood of the city - court, Mayor Jones and others, before who I was enabled to lay my business, and ask in turn for any suggestions they might - offer.
