90 Supt.Education

School Dist of Talladega B R F
Talladega Ala Sept 9th 1868
Respectfully returned to Capt G K Sanderson A A A Genl State of Ala. with the following remarks
Shelby Iron Works is but six miles from Columbiana the County Seat of Shelby Co where there has been a school for the colored people taught by Miss E. S. Thompson for the last year where a large number of the children from the Iron works attended. I am informed.
Application has been made to the Bureau for assistance to build a school house at Columbiana by Miss Thompson. No post has ever been received at this office from Mr Porter when it is generally known that a report is required monthly. He did not open his school until after Miss Thompson closed hers for the summer vacation.
Where are some One Hundred and fifty to two hundred freedmen living near the Shelby Iron works who are not able to support a teacher for their children owing to the high price of living.
