Bvt. Brig. Gen. Hayden U.S.A.
Assistant Commissioner, Bu &c
Montgomery, Alabama;

General;
I have the honor to enclose herewith "Report on Education of Freedmen &c" for month of February 1868.
Reports from the several Teachers not having been received, my Consolidated Statement of Schools, is necessarily delayed.
In reference to Educational meetings (Question No. 8) I thought it would be best to place the matter in the hands of Prof. John Silsby, Agent of the "Am. Miss. Association, at this place who has had large experience in educational affairs.
I have reported seven (7) school houses, as needed in this Sub-District. It is believed that the freedmen of the respective localities (excepting Selma) would pay the rent of a building for school purposes, or, if each a building could not be rented
