Capt. H.M. Bush
Supt. School Buildings
Montgomery Ala.

Dr. Sr.
I have consulted with Mr Dainmore, a member of one of the leading firms of builders in this city, in reference to superintending the construction of one proposed School House. He will charge $6.00 per day and deduct 10 per ct. of that as a contribution, which reduces his price to $5.40 per day. I think it will be economy, if it can be done, to send a Govt. team from Montgomery to do the hauling as there will be more or less to do in that line during the whole time of building. Two mules can be kept here for from 25$ to 30$ per month. A driver would ask say 25$ per month.

Have not been able to get the "committee on subscriptions" formed of the colored people together. I believe it to be the better way to prosecute the work with what means we have and get such subscriptions as we can as the progresses. Lumber will cost [[old?]] at depot about $13.60

In great haste very Respectfully,
Chas. C. Bartlett
Sub Asst. Commr.
