Colonel:
I have the honor to inquire if it be considered the duty of this Office to ascertain the extent to which this Bureau will be called upon for aid in carrying on the system of Free Schools provided for by the laws of this State. From the Circular lately issued from the Office of the Supt. of Education Bu &c for Ala, to "County Superintendents and Trustees of the Free Public Schools of Ala.", I judged it might be the intention, in view of the probable early closing of the Sub Offices of the Bureau, that all business relating to the matter was in future to be conducted with that office.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servt.

Sub Asst. Commr.
