My Dear Sir
I am just apprised of your appointment to the position of Supt. of Freedmen's Schools in Alabama. 
I have the honor to address you in reference to schools under my charge at Montgomery, Selma and Talladega. It has been intimated to me that the schools at Mont. are not satisfactory to you. Will you please give me you impressions of the Schools and make such suggestions as you may desire in respect to them. 
At Selma we have purchased a desirable Sch. site and lend the promise of Gen. Wager E Swayne that a suitable sch house should be erected upon it, the plan & specification for such a building were at the request of Gen Swayne sent in [[strikethrough]] Dec. [[/strikethrough]] Nov. last to Rev E.W. Buckley then Supt. for the state. The receipt of them has never been acknowledged and our communications respecting them and other matters have not been answered. Will you please inform me if they have been recd. &, whether
