the proposed building will be erected.
At Talladega we have under taken a thorough repair of our College Building relying upon appropriation of $2000.00 for that purpose promised by Gen Swayne. Our agt. Rev H.E. Brown writes that he had not recd, returns on bills according to expectations. It will seriously embarass us if his appropriation is not available for we are purchasing and forwarding materials and the repairs should be made at once.
It is very desirable that a suitable Sch. building should be erected at Montgomery. We could probably provide these as at other points a suitable site could such a building be erected.
The Am. Miss. Asso. would then hold buildings at Mobile (under charge of Chicago office) Montgomery Selma & Talladega. We expect to be able to sustain for these schools first class Educations and make them thorough & efficient until such time as the people shall be prepared to take the responsibility of them.
We are ready to cooperate with you to the full extent of our ability in whatever may may seem best to promote the permanent educational interests of the state. Owing to the delay in the erection of permanent and suitable buildings our schools in Ala. are not in so satisfactory condition as in the other states of this Dept.
