of a Freedman's School, but not assured pay for her services by the Bureau; on the contrary she was informed that the Bureau appropriation for schools, was nearly exhausted and it was desired that no more schools be taken up as Bureau schools.

The instructions of the Supt. of Education, were, that no school would be taken up and paid by the Bureau unless it had an average attendance of forty five (45) scholars &c &c. This rule, I believe, was strictly adhered to. As Mrs. Dickinson reported but 35 scholars, total number, I would not recommend that her school be made an exception to other similar ones, and she be paid by the Bureau.
