Maj General Swane,

Sir I suppose you will think very strange of receiving a [[strikethrough]] l [[/strikethrough]] letter from one whom you have never seen or heard of. It is my distressing condition alone that prompts me to do so. I am a poor lone widow with one child but alas that child is paralised [[paralyzed]] & has been for 4 years & I have no earthly dependance nothing to look to for maintainance [[maintenance]] but my own exersions [[exertions]] for my self & my poor helpless cripple that cannot in any way assist herself. The reason I have written to you & [[strikethrough]] you [[\strikethrough]] troubled you with my distressing condition is to humbly beg your assistance in trying to obtain the last months salary for teaching of a colored school near [[strikethrough]] Tuscalopoka [[/strikethrough]]
