Eutaw Ala Feb 11th 1868

M H. M. Bush Supt, Education &c

Honored Sir,
I am requesting to make a statement to you of the colored schools under the direction and pay of the Bureau for last year (1867) in this county.

On the first of Feb last I took charge of a school in this place with my daughter (F.C.J. Hill) as assistant. Mr Buckley Supert of Education commenced paying my daughter from the 1st March. Why he did not pay for Feb I cannot say. He gave her a salary of $40 pr month till August 1st. He never paid me a cent though he promised so to do as the enclosed letter will show. We conducted our school till last November. We tried to make our school self supporting after the first of August, but it paid us scarcely anything. Why I have not received anything for compensation for my services I cannot tell as I have written a number of [[strikethrough]] an [[/strikethrough]] times and Mr Buckley has given me no reason.

At the instant of the same party I employed Mr Vassetti to open a school at Mesapotamia and Mrs Merriwether at Springfield, with the promise of support from the Bureau - the first at a salary of $50 and the latter at $30 pr month. Mr Vassetti was not paid for the first month he taught nor for the last (July). Why, I cannot say. Mrs Meriwether taught 3 months
