I have the honor to state that on the 11th day of Feb. 1867 I was engaged by Capt. C.W. Buckley Supt. of Education State of Alabama to teach a Freedmen's School at Tuskaloosa in this State, where I remained until the 8th of June. I was then ordered to Montgomery to take charge of the Col'd. Schools at that place. I remained there and taught until vacation about the last of August. At that time Capt. Buckley informed me that he desired me to take charge of Colored Schools in the Dist. of Demopolis - he did not want me to go immediately, but said my salary should "go on".
