Dear Sir:
I am in receipt of a letter dated "Airmount Ala, February 7 1868," from Sarah Jane Hope, "requesting to be furnished with funds to defray the expenses of a colored school &c".
Not being acquainted with the applicant, nor the locality where it is proposed to establish the School, &c I respectfully request to be informed through you upon the following points, viz: Could a school be organized with any assurance of permanency? Number of scholars who would attend such school.- The probably amount of money that could be contributed monthly by the freedmen, or obtained from other source, in support of the school. Probably cost of maintaining the school - How would a school house be provided - Its condition, capacity &c. What is the public sentiment, in that vicinity, as regards the establishment
