I have the honor to enclose letter of Miss E.S. Thompson, who has been teaching the Freedmen School at Columbiana Shelby County Ala for the last year. She has been using a building belonging to the white citizens, but now is out of a school room to teach in.

The last report made by Miss Thompson gives seventy Pupils. Miss Thompson is one of the best teachers in this Sub District, having been teaching white children for the last twelve years.

Columbiana is one of the most important places in this Sub Dist. for schools, there being at least one hundred children that ought to be educated in and near that place. I would respectfully recommend that assistance be rendered the
