as the building is completed for them
The Deed for the Land I forwarded to the Asst Commissioner on the 16th of September for approval.
The colored people at Columbia are all anxious to have this school house, so that they can send their children to school; and I think Miss Thompson competent to teach them.
Miss Thompson tells me that she is willing to alter the Deed forwarded on the 16th of September or sign a new one that you may send, but she wants to be allowed to teach the colored children in this house as long as she is able.
This lady has been proscribed by the white citizens of Columbia for teaching the colored children and I would respectfully recommend that she have the preference to any other teacher.
Very Respectfully
Your Ob't. Svt
