Sub-District of Eufaula,
Bureau, Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands,
Eufaula, Ala., July 13th 1868

Mr R.D. Harper
Supt of Education

Sir
I opened the school in this City on the 1st inst. The teacher employed was formerly a teacher in the Bureau.

He is highly recommended by Mr Buckley and so far has given general satisfaction.

The school numbers eighty scholars, about as many as the building can accommodate.

The teachers name is C.A. Hinchy he is accompanied by his Wife, who intends to assist him in his duties.

I have closed the school at Troy, Ala. until fall, and propose to visit Troy in a few days, and ascertain if the Teacher, Wiley, (a freedman) is competent to conduct the school, of which I have my doubts
