The school property at Demopolis referred to in your letter of Nov. 6th is in the hands of white trustees who are not all in such thorough sympathy with the colored people as I could wish.

The deed from the Selma and Meridian R R. Co. to F Lyon, Wm E Clark and T.G Cornish states in general terms that the property is for the sole use and benefit of the class of people known as Freedmen, to be used, occupied, and enjoyed by them for school and church purposes, or either or both, as they may prefer. The said parties of the second part agreeing to hold the legal title to said property subject to such rules and regulations as may be prescribed by the Freedmens Bureau, so long as the same may continue in legal existence, and if discontinued
