One half of this building is set apart as an African Methodist church, and the other half fitted up for two school rooms. One of these I have hired for $15 a month and fitted it up at a cost of $15

It is situated on a lot of half an acre bought by subscription, and on the opposite side of the street from the six acre lot known as the church and school property: on which 6 acre lot is a substantial double house built by the Confederate government for public offices, but now occupied on the one side by the School teacher, and on the other by the Pastors of the African Baptist Church and teacher of school No 2, while the balance of such school and church land is cut up into small lots, and either occupied free of rent by local African Methodist preachers, or rented out at $15 each, and the rent money so far applied to the paying a debt due the teacher of last year.

The school at Livingston is an old one in a languishing condition revived by the prospect of receiving $15 monthly as rent
