Columbus Ga. June 15th, 1866,

Chief Freedmens Bureau,
Montgomery Ala,

Sir, I am a teacher by profession having followed the business continuously for fifteen years and can give the best of reference, if required. I am a southern man by birth yet sympathise with and am solicitous for the education and welfare of the freedmen and write this to ask you if I could not probably obtain a situation in your city as teacher in a coloured school at a salary that would enable me to live I have a family here dependent on my exertion, alone for support.

If you have not leisure to attend to this yourself please hand it to some intelligent freedman or other person who can and will reply, stating salary I could probably obtain and at what price I could obtain board, Please answer as early as practicable, and oblige

Very respectfully &c
DK Bennett
