In obedience to orders from You I rented a School room and hired a teacher at Tuskegee Ala for three (3) month teacher to receive $75.00 per month Building at the rates of $200.00 per year
I did not reduce the contract to writing verbal agreement made March 26th 1866 or to date from Said date I Believe a good School will meet with the approval of the Best and influential Citizens of the town and I think there will Be no trouble in Conducting one, if Conducted properly
I found Before leaving that there was a grand change in the minds of the Citizens of the Place in relation to such matters. men who had informed me they Believed it impossible to establish a school a few weeks previous told me just Before leaving that they would levy their aid and influence for such an institution hoping you will Encourage into one already [[strikethrough]]star [[/strikethrough]] started
