Dear Sir

I wrote you several days ago in reference to the burning of an Freedmen's School House at Stevenson. Ala. on the morning of the 22 or 23'. ult. The house had just been completed & school was to be opened in it that morning. The building was purchased by us last fall, say Oct. 1865. from the Government for $250.- We had spent say some $50.- in fitting it up for our purposes. This fall, as the buildings built last year by the Colored people were found entirely too open & cold & unsuitable every way for the winter schools it was thought advisable to remove our building
