I have omitted to state that after having spent a day or more on the spot since the fire, Mr. Mitchell our Superintendent feels satisfied that citizens of Stevenson as such had no hand in the matter of the burning of the school house & are very indignant about it. It was doubtless the work of some individual miscreant of his own malice & hatred to the blacks. It seems too bad that the work so auspiciously begun & carried on thus far should come to an untimely end for want of a building. -
