Dear Sir
I am pained to hear by letter this morning from Mr Mitchell our sch. superintendent as well as by the newspapers, of the burning of our school house at Stephenson Ala. I report the case promptly to you feeling assured you will take immediate steps for doing what may be needful & proper in the circumstances. The house was bot. by us from the Govt last year for school purposes - This fall it seemed necessary to remove it outside of the town as no suitable place in the town could be pro-cured. We had rented 2 acres & hoped to be able to secure the purchase of a considerable
