Dear Sir,
It gave me pleasure to meet Mr. Heart on Friday last. He will remain with me during the week that he may both assist me & learn my method of teaching in which art he says he is rather rusty. I like what I have seen of him thus far & think he will make a good teacher.

A sample of the desks will be made this week. Hope to have them completed & in use during the coming month.

I this day informed Mr. Allen Williams we no longer needed his services in the capacity of teacher at this place; & that the government would withdraw its patronage from his school at the expiration of the present month. Although I informed Mr. Williams soon after my return from Montgomery that a northern teacher was expected who would supersede him. he has not been able to obtain employment suited to his trade & tastes. He wants to be a teacher but he does not seem to realize the necessity of preliminary preparation & self-culture on his own part. He imagines he is already qualified.
