I learn through Capt. Peck that my last letter was not sufficiently explicit. I have had none of Mr. William's scholars. He himself has been teaching this month & only closed his school last evening.

I expect all his scholars - some 45 in number - will immediately apply for tuition. Mr. Hart & myself can take some of these but not all. I also hear of others who are coming to school as soon as they can get suitable cloathes & books.

I hope therefore, you will concur with me in the opinion that there is sufficient work here for another teacher & such are one as I previously suggested I hope, too, you will send her as soon as possible

Miss Ryan at Northport is meeting with success; she manifests "patience, zeal & perseverance. The col'd people of her distinct, however, are not fulfilling their promises. They agreed to pay her $25.00; but they do not give her half that sum. She has to pay, to
