Dear Sir,
You favor, kindly asking me to freely make known my wishes as to the future, is before me.
It is my fate, whether a happy or hapless one, I know not, to be one of those who are striving to obtain an education, a profession in spite of pecuniary difficulties. A year's residence in Philadelphia in the prosecution of my medical studies caused such a redirection of my resources as necessitated me to procure more means in order to accomplish my ends. The way opening and being deeply in sympathy with this work, I came South. I assure you, during my stay here that sympathy and interest has been constantly growing.
I intend to teach another year and hav as lief yes rather remain in the South than go North if I can do as well here as there. Sometimes think I could do more than I'm now doing had I the opportunity: I would like right well to change my field of labor
