STATE OF TENNESSEE
Assistant Commissioner's Office,
Nashville Tenn., Feb 12th 1867

Rev. C. W. Buckley:

Dear Sir: I wish to make an inquiry of you respecting the nature of the fund out of which the Beaureau in Al. is paying teachers. Is it the fund accruing from Abandoned & Confiscated lands, turned over by the Bureau in each state to the office at Washington some time last autumn? Or was Al. exempted from that order & allowed to retain the land of that state? In Tenn, some $60,000 were so "turned over" & if you are drawing upon a similar fund in your state, I see not why I cannot get permission to do the same for Tennessee
