Sir:
I had the honor to receive your communication of the 29th ultimo, asking for Designs for school buildings suitable to the development of the great and good work which you have in charge in the State of Alabama. 
I immediately forwarded your letter to my friend G.P. Randall, Architect Chicago, who is the ablest and best school house architect in the Northwest, if not in the United STates- with a request that he would furnish tracings of such designs as would meeting the case. He has kindly complied, and I enclose the same herewith, and hope they will answer your purpose. 
There are four different Designs, three of them for small houses with single rooms, and the other for four rooms, - three of which are for sixty-four scholars, and one, with a class-room attached, for eighty seats, all double desks. This last does not give quite the desired number of sittings, (300) but can be enlarged a little, making the rooms 3 feet deeper, when it will accommodate the required number - or it can be
