Col. Yours of May 9th has been received. Doubtless the vouchers referred to were inadvertently omitted as none were in the enclosure as it came to me. W. Coleman has been teaching nearly the whole of this year but not until 1st March did he have the requisite number of scholars; hence he did not consider that he had any claims on the Department such until that time. He made and I forwarded reports for March & April. He also defined and I forwarded vouchers for [[strikethrough]] Ap [[/strikethrough]] March. He has never received any pay whatever. I know that he is greatly in need of funds.
I beg have to call your attention to the enclosed application for a school at McKinley. I do not know the Lady personally, but hear flattering reports as to her character, & acquirements.
Respectfully
Yr. obd't Serv't.
