Sir,
I learned on yesterday, that there was an opening at Fort deposit for a teacher to teach Freedman. I think that I am competent for such; & if the opening is not filled, I would like very much to get the position. I think that they ought to be Enlightened, & if Employed in such business, I should use Every Exertion, I could to teach them. I have consulted some of the Union men of this place, who are very anxious for me to go & take the school, they think that I will do justice by them. I have just become of age, & of course, would not do any thing to injure [[strikethrough]] our [[/strikethrough]] the United States, which I am prone to aid & assist all I can. You will please let me know whether the vacancy is filled or not, & what References you want. I have
