Dear Sir

At the request of a large number of prominent colored people in this place, I write to you, as a prominent party interested, to state some of the annoyances to which these parties are subjected; and that no misconception of their action & intentions may be had by yourself, or the head of the Bureau. Early in this year a Church edifice was projected by the Baptist church of this place for the especial benefit of the colored members. But as we were very indigent, in accordance with a suggestion from Rev. David Lee, Mansfield Burner and Daniel Alexander were deputed to call on your Bureau & request aid in the creation of said church. In response you very kindly contributed lumber & window sash, with the understanding that the house should be used as a school house for the benefit of colored children. On the reception of this, Mansfield & Daniel contributed the site, went to work, &, with contributions from the members of the Baptist church here
