It would be considered a personal favor to the whites as well as the blacks, as we are solicitous for the welfare of our former slaves & present friends. 

I hope you may feel at liberty to make this donation gratis, but if you do not I would make this suggestion; Can you not make it as an advancement to be repaid next January years, as they will be ready to pledge themselves to repay it then & religiously carry out that promise

They are now ready for the sash, glass, putty and hinges which you promised, & respectfully ask that you will ship them to Newport.

They have seven windows of 18 lights each, the glass to be 10 by 12

These seven windows will have shutters requiring 7 pair of hinges, and there are three doors each requiring a pair of hinges.
