Dear Sir
Mr Saml. H. Clark wishes to get up a Freedmans school in the Country some 12 miles from Huntsville. I am anxious to advance the Cause of Education among the Freed people! How much can the Bureau pay toward paying teachers in such Cases; May I expect a reply that will establish a precident in such Cases? As the Freedmen seem to be grasping for assistance in that direction more than for bread & Meat.

I have the honor Sir to be
Very Respt Yours &c
