New England Branch Freedmen's Union Commission, No. 8 STUDIO BUILDING, Boston, Sept 16th. 1867 Rev C. W. Buckley, Supt. Ed'n Montgomery Al. My Dear Sir - Your esteemed favor of the 21st Ult came in my absence. Our Teachers Committee replied I believe in part When the Freedmen's Commission was organized by the consolidation or rather the Confederation of the several local organizations throughout the country, to each Branch was assigned a particular territory both north and south. This was done to prevent clashing interests and with the hope that the whole territory would be occupied the North organized for work and the South provided with schools. By this division, parts of the states bordering the Atlantic were assigned to the N.E. Branch
