Colonel.

In obedience to assessing necessity I again address you upon the subject of my Pay as "Teacher in the Bureau"; of a colored School, Near Union Town Alabama, for the month of March 1867. At the end of the Month (March) I made out my reports for said month which were duly forwarded to you, and in due time Vouchers for my Signature for pay were forwarded by you to me. I signed them and returned them according to your instructions. When I received my first Check for pay; it stated twas for the month of April {The Communication accompanying the Check, I refer to as to when the services were rendered not that the Check made any Statement - I received my first check in May 1867.} Thinking that under the press of business, my Vouchers for March, as Signed by myself had been overlooked, I through Mr Ro Christian in a written Communication asked your Attention to it and asked for information about my pay for March as you held my receipts for the same.
You responded that you did not recognize my School on a government basis for March. I had the required numbers of Scholars for said month and in my opinion, under your instructions was and am entitled to the Compensation as stated by yourself in your opening correspondence with Ro Christian Esqr of Uniontown Ala. in regard to the School. You certainly authorized me in this instructions to open under Government Auspices, and you I think recognized my school, when you submit vouchers to be signed by myself for pay and those vouchers stating upon their faces what the services were.
