I wrote you sometime since, but never heard one word from you. I am in needy circumstances, and if you can give me what simple justice and your word awards me, you will relieve one who feels keenly the necessities of common life.

I am Colonel in making this statement [[?]] simple justice to myself and hope you will not take it in any other [[illegible]]. I have spoken to Maj. Shorkley to aid me all he can in the matter and he has generously aided me in consenting to do so.

Hoping soon to hear of a favorable response, I remain your obedient servant.
