My Dear Sir
Allow me to call your attention to the subject of a Colored School, of which I spoke to you in June, last, during our Convention. My recollection is that you informed me that it would be a bout the first September, Proximo before you would be prepared to make contracts for the next school year. Now as that is near at hand, we are becoming anxious to secure a Contract for our proposed teacher, Mr. T.J. Golden, who is the decided choice of the Colored people, as well as my own. Mr G. has 60 subscribed pupils, with a prospect, of many more. We are building & fitting up a school house, which will soon be complete. The Blacks are very anxious that the school shall commence. We have no black school nearer us than West Point, Ga, Our opposition to the school is great by those frozen hearted opposers of the Gov't.
